House Wood Alteration & Addition Craighall, Johannesburg
This alteration and addition was to a house that had a beautiful garden, and the actual house was already quite beautiful, so I designed to respect the original nature of the house, and continue the good elements into the rest of the house.
By removing key walls, we opened up the kitchen to be able to see out to the garden. The addition incorporated extending the existing cottage to a two bedroom staff quarters. We added another staff quarters on top of the garage; extended the main bedroom, and went up a level to give the main bedroom a private lounge and study with beautiful views out over the garden; and reconfigured the bedrooms and bathrooms to allow for the big family that was moving into the house.
I was commissioned for the design and to gain council approval. The client and contractor ran the project on site. A few key façade treatments were omitted by the contractor, so should be rectified in the future to give it the look that it was designed to have.
Overall the project was an enormous success, and was completed in record time in order to allow the clients to move in before the December break.
